A palette of robust, engineered and aesthetic materials combined with loose and gentle planting…

A tired, existing deck and tumbling landscape made way for a new structure and retaining wall. Increasing useable space, both on the deck and ground level, was a top priority. Doubling the deck from its previous size and installing a retaining wall defined the upper garden and claimed back the mean proportions. Just like the previous structure, this one was designed to last – an Oak frame underpinned the beautiful Kebony boards and screens. Our clients are keen gardeners and wanted to make use of the rain harvesting potential (and storage) of the deck. The underside was lined with marine ply and roofing felt applied between the joists – all plumbed into 4 water butts located underneath and out of sight.

Local Long Ashton rubble stone-faces steel reinforced block walls and London Stone Golden Stone porcelain cladding the steps and paths.
